I thought living in a peaceful environment surrounded by mountainous scenic views would ease my life. It did, no doubt. But I did not consider other things, for example bill for electricity. With a large house comes a large bill, due to the increased usage of many electronic devices. To cut this unnecessarily large expense from my life, I decided to install solar power. In this blog, I will talk about how this decision just changed my life completely, and I enjoy living in my new house more.
First Few Months In New House:
I did not think about installing solar power in my new house at first. Because I didn’t know this thing that the bills for electricity are more expensive in this region than living in a flat in a city. And my house is bigger now as well, so that also counts as a factor. I was so mesmerized by the house and the surroundings that I forgot to think about other things, which proved to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Yes, if I lived alone in this house, then surely, I would not have used so much electricity, but family is important, and when they moved in, they required different rooms and different electronic essentials in their rooms as well, like bulbs, fans, and yes, ACs.
I was against the idea of AC because we are in a region where, at first, I thought AC wouldn’t be required, and my wife and mother agreed. But as things stand, the temperature can rise up to 40 degrees Celsius here in the summer. So, ACs are a must requirement. And when we moved into our new house, it was the summer time, I could live without the AC, but not my family, and that is a kinda problem, but I understand as well. So in the first month, we didn’t use it; we thought we could live without it, but no. So, after the first month, we used a lot of electricity, which proved heavy on my wallet.
The Heavy Bills:
After using the electricity with a free hand, the electricity bills came like a wrecking ball. They were so high that I froze for a moment after seeing them. I was just sitting quietly alone, having a drink of tea, watching the scenic views, and enjoying the peaceful environment, but that peaceful moment ended in seconds when my brother came at handed me the electricity bill. I, for a moment, went into shock and just froze. After realizing what had just happened, I called in my family members and held a family meeting. I showcased the electricity bill in the middle, for everyone to see. Had a brief talk with them, and told them to cut down their usage of electricity, and no more AC.
They all agreed, but as I told you, it was the summer time, even I couldn’t live without AC. So, me and my brother decided that we need to make this house solarized. We took our families in confidence as well; we knew this was a one-time, expensive setup, but after that, our lives would be settled.
We Set Out in Search of the Solar Panels:
So, our new quest started, finding the solar panels, to make our new home solar powered. Wasn’t easy, me and my brother, went to many shops around the city, but the prices were high, and didn’t meet with our expectations, but we needed to buy. Our search for solar panels continued for 3 days. It was exhausting, because as a Lawyer, in the morning, I went to court, and in the evening, finding solar panels, life became hell. By the way, I talked about my journey as a lawyer in another blog; check that out as well. I used to come home, fall into bed, and instantly sleep. This also made my life with my wife uneasy as well, I couldn’t give time to her and my children.
But after 3 days of struggle, we finally found a place where the shop owner understood our requirements and agreed on the price as well. We hit a jackpot at that moment. He told us that we needed 14 solar panels to run our house and 2 ACs. We agreed that was all we needed. He suggested we buy an inverter and four large batteries to power the house at night, but we explained that we only wanted to run the house on solar energy during the day and send the excess power back to the electricity grid. But we still needed the inverter and at least 2 large batteries, to have backup, and to provide electricity to the house, in case of loadsheddings. I will share the things we bought in a moment.
Making Our House Solar Powered:
After agreeing on solar panels and the pricing of the things that were required, we put the men to work. The shop owner had his men come to our house to analyze the place where the solar panels would be installed, and determine the placement in which solar panels would be more effective and give full benefits through the power of the Sun.
After doing this, the next day they arrived and started working. It took them 4-5 hours, and 10-12 cups of tea from our end, to finish the work. There were 4 men, and we were 2 brothers. So, we also had tea, which makes it 15-16 cups, I think, so both groups did work. We made the tea, and they made the solar panels, hehe.
After installation of wiring, solar panels, and fitting of the inverter and batteries, and other things related to it, the time came to switch the electricity to solar power. But, indeed, there is a but here again, as I said, it took them 4-5 hours, and when they finished, it was already evening, the sun was gone. They told us to switch in the next morning, if we run into any problems, don’t do anything by yourself; just call us. So, that night, we were really happy, I even arranged a small family party, where we all played games, and enjoyed.
The next morning, we converted it, and everything was perfect. Now our house was running on the energy provided by the sun, and everything was free. 2 ACs were running fine, without any problems, and to this day, we have not run into any problems, thankfully. Now we can’t imagine life without Solar energy.
The Essential Things That We Bought:
Now I will tell you about the things that we needed to buy, so if you guys decide on buying solar power panels and the essentials, you don’t get confused and don’t run into problems. Because sometimes, these things can confuse you, and shop owners will take advantage of that, and you spend more money than you should. So, here are the things:

So, these were the things which we bought, and were told to buy; all these things were used. I cannot disclose the prices, because prices are different from country to country. The prices in my country will not be the same as in your country, so first research about it, and then decide to buy.
Solar Power Changed My Life:
After the installation of this wonderful equipment in my house, I am stress-free and comfortable in my new house. I don’t care about electricity bills now that much. Obviously, I do care, but not that much. Now, in the day and in sunlight, we use solar power energy, and at night we convert it to electricity provided by the local electricity provider, and it has saved us so much money.
Now I don’t get shocks after seeing electricity bills, because they are very low, and I easily pay them off. Now, I am enjoying my life more in my new house, without worrying about anything. Solar Power is a fantastic innovation, and I am thankful for it. This has made my life go from miserable to more exciting. In the heading, I somewhat, a little lied to you guys, about going zero in the electricity bills, but believe, it is not fully zero, and it feels like zero, doesn’t hurt my wallet and my bank account at all. It feels like nothing is going out. So please, don’t get me wrong here, okay.
