By reading this heading, you might be thinking, ‘A house in the mountains? Is he high or dreaming? Must be joking.’ But believe me, I am not. It’s quite the opposite. Living in a mountain home is the best living I have ever experienced. The scenic views, the quietness, the calm, and the natural surroundings all combine to make living in the mountains an unreal experience. But getting a house in the mountains was not an easy journey. That’s why I wanted to share with you, through this blog, how I bought my dream house in a mountainous area.
Early Stage Of Dreaming:
I always dreamt of having a house in a peaceful environment. I used to live in a place surrounded by shops and traffic noise, a lot of noise pollution. It made my life miserable, and for that moment, when I was, I think, 12 or 13 years old, I decided and promised myself that I would work hard, with dedication, and some cleverness, and I would buy a house in a peaceful environment. I always wanted to become a lawyer, not that any of my family members were lawyers or worked in the field of law, but my passion was always in the field of law, especially in advocacy. I lived my childhood and my youth surrounded by the chaotic life of the city, and not a peaceful moment at all.
The Search Begins:
When I became a lawyer, and after some several tough years, I started earning well. I have already told my struggle days in another blog; you can check out that as well, which is also written on this same site. Please check out, then you’ll understand how hard it was for me. So, yes, where was I? Ahh, yes, when I started earning well, I decided to change my bar lawyer license to another city. First, I went there, and started to live in a flat with just 2 bedrooms, but it was also in the center of the city.
I lived in Karachi, and then I decided to move to Gilgit Baltistan, and started searching for my dream house in a mountainous area, because that’s the city where I know I can find a peaceful and cozy house, not only for me, but for my family as well. I had the money, I just needed to find that house. I didn’t take any cases and completed all my cases in Karachi. I just wanted to start a new peaceful life, and for that, I had the Will to even change my city.
One day, I drove through the hills where many houses were located. I was alone, and not even an estate agency person was with me that day. I looked at many houses, many were great, and some were not-so-amazing. But the road kept going up, and houses were still remaining.
Finding “The One”
After driving for almost an hour, I found it, a house made like a palace, but not so big, but looked like a palace, the architectural design resembled a fort of an older age kingdom of Gilgit Baltistan. Luckily, yes, see, how lucky I am, the house was on sale as well.
I talked with the owners and asked, “Why, really, are you even thinking of selling this masterpiece?” They chuckled and told me, “Yes, it’s a masterpiece, but our family is going abroad to live there, and we have another house in the city, so now, we can’t afford it, and want to sell.” For me, this was a jackpot moment.
I asked them about the house, how it was made, and the cultural magnificence behind it. They told me that they are Pashtuns and wanted to bring their culture into their house as well, so they brought an architect from Lahore, and told their requirements to him.
When I saw the house, the interior was fantastic, but the exterior was mind-blowing. And it still is. Surrounding the mountains, the trees, the noises of the birds, and the stream of water coming down the mountain. No shops nearby, no traffic, just cars of the neighborhood people. The most peaceful place in the world. The house was located at the top of the road, meaning it was the end, which was the last house, that’s why it was made like a palace.
The Negotiation Time:
When I saw the house, I decided at that moment, yes, this is the house, this is literally my dream house right there. There were other people as well at that time, wanting to buy the house. I was nervous, I thought I had come here late, and the other party would buy it, and I would be just standing there, seeing my dream house slipping out of my hands.
But, yes, there is always a but in these kinds of stories. The other party asked for more time, which the previous owners declined, because they didn’t have more time. You see, I wrote “Previous Owner” because I am the owner of the house now. I told them that I am willing to buy the house now. Obviously, paperwork takes time, but as a lawyer, I have my connections. Hehe.
The real talk of the money took place inside the house, in an area we call “Baithak.” The previous owner’s men were there with their “Sarbarah”; he is the one who makes all the decisions. We talked and negotiated; he knew I was a lawyer, because I told him, and knew that I would argue with every price, and would go back and forth. But one thing was certain, I wanted to buy, and they wanted to sell, as soon as possible. I also told them that, because of my connections, the paperwork will also not take a long time.
We finally agreed on a price after a long discussion and having 6 cups of tea. We agreed and gave them the initial fee, like a token money. They were happy, and I was jubilant. The house is incredible, the scenery, and the peaceful environment are worth every penny.
Moving In:
When everything was done accordingly, and the house was registered in my mother’s name, we decided to move into the house. Yes, you read that correctly, in my mother’s name. As I told you, I didn’t want a peaceful house only for myself, but for my family as well, especially for my mother. So, I gifted this house to her.
When I arrived at my mountain home, it felt magical. I stood on the porch, took a deep breath of fresh mountain air, and thought, “I did it, I really did it.”
Life In The Mountainous Home:
Life in this house, in my dream house, is exactly what I imagined. Coming from a chaotic life in a city with a lot of noise pollution and air pollution. To a peaceful environment, with unreal scenery, with almost no noise pollution, and the air quality is just amazing, can’t describe it in words. In the morning, I always sit on the porch and have my tea there, because from there, I can see the mountains in the surrounding, the greenery, the chirping of the birds, and the soothing sound of the lake flowing. Every day is peaceful, and with those peaceful moments, I also stay calm and composed.
The End… Or Is It Just The Beginning?
